Daily Mail: E-cigarettes are getting non-smoking teens hooked on nicotine

UKVIA comment on the recently published article by the Daily Mail on the vaping culture among teenagers.

A UK Vaping Industry Association spokesman said, “Public Health England and the Royal College of Physicians have found vaping to be at least 95% safer than smoking tobacco. Addressing a cross-party group of MPs and Peers recently (the APPG on e-cigarettes, 6.12.16), Public Health England, Cancer Research UK and smoking cessation expert Professor Hajek told members that their research had found no evidence of any significant uptake of vaping by non-tobacco users in the UK.

“A recent survey by Action on Smoking and Health (October 2016) found regular use (once a month or more) among 11-18yr olds was rare and largely among children who currently or have previously smoked tobacco. Only 2% of respondents said they used electronic cigarettes more than once a month.

“There are also strict rules in place to ensure that vaping products are not marketed or sold to minors.”
