UKVIA comment on the latest NHS Statistics on Smoking in the UK

“We welcome the new statistics on smoking published by the NHS, which show yet another fall in the number of smokers in the UK from 15.5% in 2016 to 15.1% in 2017. We are proud that vaping has allowed so many smokers to quit their habit, with 48% of the vapers surveyed saying that the main reason for vaping was to give up smoking. According to a recent report by Public Health England (PHE), e-cigarettes may be contributing to at least 20,000 successful new quits per year – with the industry estimating this figure to be much higher.

“However, there are still widespread myths about vaping, with many smokers thinking that vaping is as bad as smoking. It is our aim at the UKVIA to cut through the bad information and support smokers on their journey towards smoking cessation.”
