UKVIA Vaping Industry Forum

Seizing the vaping public health prize

2 May 2019

4 Hamilton Place, London

Support for vaping as the most effective way to stop smoking has gathered significant momentum over the last 12 months. The most recent Public Health England evidence review reinforced that vaping represents one of the best ways to quit conventional cigarettes; whilst the House of Common’s Science & Technology Committee called for a review of advertising and product restrictions to encourage smokers to switch.

However, even though there are now over three million vapers with over half being ex-smokers, doubts about vaping still persist. Conflicting evidence of the health effects of vaping, sensationalism by the media and accusations of vaping appealing to young peoples are all serving to creating a confusing picture for consumers. Indeed, the latest research from Action on Smoking & Health highlights that the proportion of the adult population thinking that vaping products are as harmful, or more harmful, than smoking has nearly quadrupled from 7% in 2013 to 26% in 2017.

This is why the UKVIA’s second annual will be dedicated to seizing the public health prize that vaping represents. We will hear from a range of stakeholders critical to addressing the points above in a series of robust and informative debates.

The UKVIA Vaping Industry Forum is the UK’s only dedicated industry-led conference in the sector. Organised by the leading trade body for the vaping sector, it is the main business to business event designed to discuss the issues faced by the industry, celebrate success and create networking opportunities to discuss the industry’s potential for growth.

The Forum: 8:00 – 17:00

The one-day business-to business conference will cover:

  • What more can the public health sector do to encourage vaping?
  • Does the media have a responsible role when reporting on the public health impact of e-cigarettes?
  • Can CBD add to the public health benefits of vaping?
  • Vaping in the workplace: can employers play a key part in supporting the health of their staff?
  • How can the industry support local smoking cessation services spreading the message about vaping to hard to reach smokers?
  • Where next for vaping regulation?
  • What action should the industry take in the face of allegations that vaping appeals to young people?
